Who qualifies for a disability parking placard?

Each state writes its own rules, but the common threads are mobility and safety: difficulty walking a short distance without resting, using a wheelchair, walker, cane, or other aid, heart or lung conditions, portable oxygen, or severely limited vision. Our questionnaire walks you through the criteria that apply where you live, and every application is reviewed individually. We can never promise approval — but if your application isn't approved, you get a full refund.

How does the review process work?

You apply online in about five minutes — tell us your state, the placard you need, and what makes parking hard for you. From there, our team reviews your application and prepares the paperwork your state requires — no appointments, no phone calls, no waiting rooms. When it's ready, your completed permit package appears in your secure dashboard with instructions for submitting it to your state.

Is this legitimate? Are you the DMV?

No, and we want to be completely upfront about that. HandicapParking.org is a private company, not a government agency or DMV. Disability parking placards are issued exclusively by your state's motor-vehicle agency. We help you prepare and complete the application paperwork you submit to your state. Using our service does not guarantee state approval.

What exactly do I receive?

Your completed permit package: the application paperwork your state requires, prepared from your answers and ready to submit, along with plain-English, step-by-step instructions for sending it to your state's motor-vehicle agency. Everything is delivered to your secure online dashboard, ready to download whenever you need it.

How long does the whole process take?

The online application takes about five minutes. Most applications are reviewed and prepared within a few business days, and your completed paperwork appears in your dashboard as soon as it's ready. After you submit to your state, processing time is up to the state agency — it varies from a few days to a few weeks depending on where you live.

What if my application isn't approved?

Then you pay nothing — we refund the full amount to your original payment method, automatically. You don't have to argue your case or fill out a claim form. We'd rather earn your trust with an honest review than keep a fee you shouldn't have paid.

Do you serve my state?

Yes — we prepare applications for all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Because every state uses its own forms and rules, we prepare your paperwork to match your state's specific requirements, and your submission instructions are written for your state's motor-vehicle agency, not a generic checklist.

Should I choose a temporary or permanent placard?

Choose temporary ($129) if your condition is expected to improve — recovering from surgery, a fracture, or short-term treatment. Temporary placards are typically valid for up to six months. Choose permanent ($179) for ongoing conditions like arthritis, cardiac or lung disease, or neurological disorders. If you're not sure, pick your best guess — our team reviews every application and will reach out if a different option fits your situation better.

What happens when my placard needs to be renewed?

Renewal rules differ by state: some let you renew a permanent placard by mail with no new paperwork, while others require updated documentation every few years. Our permanent package includes renewal reminders so the expiration date never sneaks up on you, and if your state requires fresh paperwork, we can help you prepare it when the time comes.

How do I track my application?

Through your dashboard, with no password to invent or forget. Enter your email, and we send you a secure one-time sign-in link. Once you're in, you can see exactly where things stand — application received, review in progress, or documents ready to download — plus every document we've prepared for you.

How is my personal information protected?

We collect only what's needed to review and prepare your application — no lengthy medical histories or free-text symptom diaries. Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest, used only by the team preparing your paperwork, and never sold or rented to anyone. You can request deletion of your data at any time.

How much does it cost, in total?

One flat, one-time payment: $129 for a temporary placard or $179 for a permanent one. That covers the complete application review, your state-ready paperwork, submission instructions, and dashboard tracking — with no subscriptions, memberships, or hidden fees. Your state's motor-vehicle agency may charge its own small fee when you submit; that fee goes to the state, not to us.
